SOME OF YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

HOW GREAT ARE THE ENERGY SAVINGS?

Did you know electric lighting burns 25% of the average home energy budget!

LED's (Light Emitting Diodes) have revolutionised energy-efficient lighting using on average 20% (or less!) of the energy required to power a traditional filament or energy saving lamp but offering a comparable or better light output.

LED's HAVE A GREATER LIFESPAN?

Yes, ECOLED LED Lighting products should last more than 50,000 hours with very small reductions in light output over their lifetime. That is over 15 years in an average household (based on 8 hours usage per day) and is 25 times longer than typical incandescent light bulbs! Additionally, with the exceptionally low failure rate, maintenance is virtually eliminated! LED lighting is solid-state and does not have a filament and so is virtually indestructible.

COOL & SAFE?

ECOLED lighting generates some heat but can be cool enough to touch.

ARE THEY REALLY ECO FRIENDLY?

YES! ECOLED lighting products are mercury free unlike compact fluorescent lamps which need careful disposal. Typically, ECOLED products are made from materials such as glass, steel and aluminium so are almost fully recyclable at the end of their lives.

I'VE SEEN LED LIGHTING IN THE SHOPS AND THEIR LIGHT COLOUR CAN APPEAR STRANGE. IS THIS TYPICAL?

No. LED lighting is now available in many different “colour temeratures” (Kelvin) including warm white (around 3000k) which is mainly associated with the quality of light we have all become used to with low voltage halogen. Warmer and cooler colour temperatures are also available. It may just be that your local supplier is behind the times!

WHAT ABOUT THE OUTPUT? LED BULBS I'VE SEEN ARE NOT VERY BRIGHT.

This is true, certainly of 'LED bulbs,' not of ECOLED products!

ARE THEY COST EFFECTIVE? HOW CAN I TELL?

One of the common concerns with LED is the higher general purchase price. However, the cost of changing to ECOLED LED lighting is soon recouped over time such are the enormous energy savings. Further, ECOLED products ensure compliance with new building regulations and the energy saving requirements.

A moderate home using 30 of our ECOLED ZEP1 down lights could see savings in excess of £500 per year from their electricity bill!

CAN I RUN ECOLEDS USING MY SOLAR/WIND POWER?

Absolutely! Due to the extremely low power requirements, ECOLED LED lights are very suitable for use with solar panel or wind power generators. If you wish to run on 12 Volt or 24 Volt please speak with us and we will provide the solution.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "SI" LED AND "MI" LED?

"SI" (Super Intense) is the first generation of LEDs. Typically the 5mm type.
"MI" (Mega Intense) is the more powerful LED typically 1 Watt and above which can be used for illumination.

Often a number of these would be combined to create light outputs equivalent to the previous 20W 50W and 100W filament and halogen lamps however, ECOLEDproducts are now generally employing the latest generation of powerful, single MI LEDs.

WHAT'S A PSU AND DO I NEED ONE?

Simply put, PSU stands for Power Supply Unit - a transformer in laymans' terms. All LED's need either constant voltage or constant current at very low voltages.

CAN I FIX MY LEDS TO DIMMER SWITCHES?

Yes, but you will require a dimmable PSU and an appropriate dimmer control usually 'trailing edge' type. This doesn't apply to all LED products so you should contact us to check.

WHAT ON EARTH IS RGB?

RGB means Red, Green, Blue and is a generic term for LEDs that are able to create a range of colours by mixing these colours just like an LED television does. ECOLED has your solution; from a simple off the shelf remote controller to advanced, fully customisable computer control systems.
